It was a bit of a scramble pulling this together, but it was important for me to take this live by 1 Jan.
You’ll have to forgive my fumbling, I’m pretty green to blogging and learning new things every day.
In any case, I’m K and wanted to start documenting my journey to FIRE. I’m married, no kids, in my mid-30s, and a federal employee.
2020 was scary, but we have been very lucky with our job security and did quite well financially. While I wouldn’t say I’m his #1 fan, I opted to try my hand at the Dave Ramsey Baby Steps. Frankly, it was great. We rounded out 2020 in Baby Step 6– paying off the mortgage… I made a whopping $317 extra principal payment, which felt good!
The main kicker was the 15% into retirement (Baby Step 4). It was a great year to be investing (after March, of course). Our net worth increased by over $100,000 this year. It’s likely the Zillow estimate of our house is overly generous, but it feels nice anyway.
I came across the FIRE movement… somehow. I don’t remember who I found first, maybe Our Rich Journey, my financial heroes. But sometime in the March/April timeframe it snuck into my life, and there was no turning back.
There are few times in my life where direction has been this clear. It’s refreshing.
I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m not providing advice. I just wanted to share our journey with you and hope it provides you with some beneficial information and inspiration!
Wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2021!
