So that medical procedure I alluded to actually knocked me on my ass more than I was expecting. I’ve only started feeling truly “myself” today… and that was after sleeping in and lying in bed for 30 minutes in the afternoon.
I’m finishing up our January budget and will have that posted in a few days. We did well this month, even with one less full-time income. My FSA has paid out for my procedure and some contact lens solution, and we’re overall good.
I’m starting to prep for taxes, even though we don’t have all of our documents yet. Last year, my small business was new, so I opted to hire a CPA for taxes to ensure they got done properly. It set us back about $1500. For this year, that option is still on the table, but I’m also kind of doing them on the side through Credit Karma to see if I can handle it. I’ve used them in the past and it was fine, provided you don’t have super complicated taxes.
We are super bad at getting the W-4s right. We always owe, which is fine with me (I’d rather have our money up front), but it freaks my husband out every time. This year may be even worse than last, so this should be a fun conversation. I’m estimating having to pay out $6,000… but we’ll see.
Hubby is toying with the idea of holding off on starting the new business and trying a few different career paths. I’m all for this because he’s always worked in the same industry. I also noticed he would get stressed when talking about the new business, and I didn’t feel a whole lot of momentum coming from him. It’s totally understandable, burnout burns you out. Once he figures all of that out and gets a job, I’m going to try to max out my 401(k), provided his new income allows enough for us to live on.
February budget coming soon as well.
